Manufactured by
Fairchild Hiller, the aircraft is an American
version of the famous Fokker F-27 licensed by Fokker
itself. The aircraft built by the American
manufacturer had a higher radome to receive a
weather radar and higher fuel capacity than the
European version. With the bankruptcy of Paraense,
on May 29, 1970, four FH-227 were transferred from
the company's bankruptcy to RJ-SP Air Bridge pool,
leased with proportional apportionment among the
participating airlines. By decision of the operators
themselves, VARIG was in charge of restoring and
operating the aircraft, which were painted in the
basic colors of the company, without logos. The
airplanes were operated by VARIG's crew exclusively
on RJ-SP route. These aircraft became known by the
nickname "Boko Moko", a famous personage in
guarana's commercials at that time. After five years
of service, the aircraft were sold to Taba and CATA
Argentina.
