The Ruben Berta Foundation has as its principal objective to promote the well-being of the employees of a conglomerate of businesses stemming out of one main trunk: VARIG. The perception that the actual economy imposes a professional management of the shareholder participations caused the Ruben Berta Foundation to create the FRB-Par, a holding designed to permanently tend these investments in the Group. Its creation, among other advantages, allowed greater clarity for disclosures of each company; focus on each business activity; autonomy of decision; maximization of the return to shareholders and creation of opportunities for attracting of investments.

The FRB-Par Group controls three holdings, Varig, Varig Participacoes em Transportes Aereos (Varig Participation in Air Transports) and Varig Participacoes em Servicos Complementares (Varig Particiation in Complementary Services) which control ten companies: VARIG, Rio Sul, Nordeste, Pluna, VARIG LOG, Varig Travel, Rotatur, SATA, Tropical Hotels Brasil and Amadeus Brasil.

VARIG is the largest air tranportation company in Latin America and, together with Rio Sul and Nordeste, operates 115 aircraft, offering the largest, most diversified network of airlines in the country. With this operational alliance, which consolidated management of the group in the market, the passenger now has three times more options of routes and schedules and three times the comfort and convenience, from reservation to boarding. The three companies offer connections between 70 Brazilian cities.

The national network of airlines is inter-connected to VARIG"s international services that, today, directly connect 133 countries and, since 1997, thanks to connections with the Star Alliance partners" networks - an alliance of strategic cooperation between airlines, uniting VARIG with 16 other renowned companies (Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai International, United Airlines, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Singapore Airlines, Austrian Airlines, British Midland BMI, Asiana Airlines, Spanair, Lot Polish Airlines, US Airways, Croatia Airlines and Adria Airlines), guarantees our Brazilian customers access to more than 772 destinations throughout the world. Together, the three companies aircraft have almost 5000 departures per week - meaning we are taking off from somewhere every two minutes.

The operational integration of VARIG, Rio Sul and Nordeste has as its objective to facilitate access to any destination. The unification of reservations and of ticket office and airport service reduces time lost and permits passengers to better coordinate their trip, as they will always find the most convenient schedules and the most modern, comfortable airplanes with on-board service provided by some of the most recognized international chefs.

On high-demand connections, between central airports in cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Porto Alegre and Vitoria, the Air Shuttle concept is being used extensively, offering flights as frequently as every 15 minutes.

Quality, safety and profit are the pillars of our Company's current strategy to succeed in today's competitive global commercial aviation markets. From our beginning in 1927, VARIG"s biggest challenge has been to go far beyond the expectations of our most demanding passengers.

With this in mind, VARIG created a style of flying that continues to gain passengers of many different nationalities, always staying in tune with the best that the world has to offer. The secret has been to add the warmth of the Brazilian people, to the best in current technology and the highest international standard of quality
