After absorbing Consórcio Real-Aerovias, Varig added to its fleet five DC-6B, passenger version. PP-YSI, PP-YSJ, PP-YSL were former SAS, while PP-YSM and PP-YSN were former Northwest. Those aircrafts had flown in company’s domestic lines. The DC-6 flew mainly between Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba and Porto Alegre, while Super Constellations flew more to Northeast and North regions. But it was possible to see DC-6 at certain times in all major capitals from north to south.
The DC-6s were appreciated by the passengers, being fast for that time, with pressurized cabin and comfortable. Pilots also appreciated DC-6s for its reliability.
When deactivated by VARG, all units were transferred to FAB.
